Dental CleaningsThe ADA recommends that you have your teeth cleaned at least twice a year. While it might not seem like much, cleanings allow us to help you thoroughly clean all areas of your teeth, including those that you might not be able to thoroughly clean on your own. We can remove all buildup, including stubborn tartar, which cannot be brushed way no matter how often you brush your teeth. Your cleaning begins with thorough, careful scraping of your teeth. We then polish them smooth and floss them. If necessary, a fluoride treatment can be provided.
Routine ExamsRoutine exams are recommended twice a year as well and are typically performed in the same appointment as your cleaning. With exams, we can detect issues in their earliest stages, before symptoms begin to appear. This allows you to get the treatments you need to restore your oral health, preventing the development of more serious complications later. We check your teeth over for signs of decay, cavities, and physical damage. Your gums are looked over for redness, swelling, recession, and periodontal pockets. We also perform an oral cancer screening, which is essential for detecting the earliest stages of oral cancer.
X-RaysX-rays help us to see the invisible areas of your mouth, including the regions between your teeth and the areas below your gum line. With these images, we can spot cavities, root fractures, damage to your jawbone, impacted teeth, bone loss, cysts, abscesses, and so much more. With these images, we are provided with a full picture of your oral condition so that we can customize treatment to meet your specific needs.
Additional Preventative CareWhile brushing, flossing, and regular dental visits are essential for preventing cavities, some people are at greater risk than others. We can help to further prevent their development with fluoride treatments and sealants. Fluoride treatments are applications that help to strengthen your teeth so that they can fight off acid erosion. Sealants help to prevent buildup in the crevices of your molars, which can be difficult to clean completely with your toothbrush. Sealants cover over the crevices on the chewing surfaces of your molars, preventing the accumulation of food particles and bacteria. They also help to make your teeth easier to keep clean.
Treating CavitiesIf cavities do form, treatment is needed right away. We can treat cavities with fillings. Fillings are a simple, straightforward treatment that can be completed in a single appointment. Fillings are made from either amalgam or composite resin. After cleaning the decay from the cavity, we fill the empty space. This helps to stop the damage to the affected tooth and prevent new decay and destruction from occurring.
